A weekend ride is exactly that ... a gathering of riders at a particular place and time. They are like a rally in that they are a weekend full of riding and socializing with other tandem teams in a locale that you don't get to ride thru all the time! They differ from rallies in that there is no "registration" fee. There is also no goodie bag, t-shirt, free munchies, free attractions, free ice-cream or a free banquet. It's a pay-as-you-go affair with local hosts providing only cue sheets and suggestions as to what to see and where to eat. A rally-on-the-cheap-so-you-can-attend-a-bunch-more, if you will!

PANTHERS Tandem Club, Inc. Lake Wales Tour de L'Orange August 27-28, 2011 The PANTHERS Tandem Club, Inc., will hold its second annual ride in Lake Wales, FL, on 27-28 August 2011. The ride will be headquartered at the Holiday Inn Express in Lake Wales, FL. Visit their website at www.hiexpress.com/lakewalesnorth or call them at 863-949-4800. A special rate of $79 per night will be honored by your reference to PANTHERS Tandem Club, Inc.. This ride is offered at NO CHARGE. The weekend ride will feature a Saturday route of 51 miles. This route will circle Lake Hamilton through the Lake Hamilton Country Club area and is one of the prettiest rides in Lake Wales. Sunday's route of 32 miles will travel South through Lake Wales and circle back to the Northeast. The routes will take advantage of tree lined roads where possible, as it is usually hot during this time of the year. A ride will be available on Friday afternoon after 1:00 pm for those who arrive early. Rest stops will be located at convenience stores within 18 miles or less along each route. Membership dues will enable the Club to participate in the insurance coverage as provided by being a member of LAB (League of American Bicycles).
